Charter and definition of naturism

The term "naturism" was first used in 1778 by a Belgian called Planchon, who coined the word as the title for a book which advocated a healthier lifestyle by observing the laws of nature.

Naturism is an alternative leisure activity, and is even a way of life for some.

Feeling good with oneself in order to feel good with others

Nature. Life in contact with nature awakens our curiosity. We learn to look, to listen and to feel, experiencing the subtle thrill of links established with the sky, the land, the water, trees, plants, flowers and animals.

The environment. Naturism was born of the human desire to harmonise one's life with the subtle rhythms and realities of nature. More than just living nude in a natural setting, it also means respecting nature, defending it, protecting it from any act of vandalism, such as breaking tree branches, hammering nails into tree-trunks, etc., and respecting waste-collection points.

The human body. As nudity is not universally accepted, we have decided to experience our naturist lifestyle in clubs, villages or beaches specially dedicated to naturism.

Nudity. We choose naturist holidays to live in the nude. Whenever the weather allows, we prefer to remain unclothed inside the village. For reasons of hygiene, we use a towel or a sarong when we sit down.

We choose to use the word "nude" rather than other, more colourful, expressions.

We express our feeling of the common good:
by spontaneously helping others;
by watching over the games and activities of our children;
by pointing out damage and avoiding waste;
by helping to maintain a pleasant general tranquillity;
by respecting the instructions and rules specific to each site;
by being scrupulously honest in order to encourage others to leave their mistrust outside and their personal effects inside, in complete trust.
When we bring our household pets with us, we make sure that they bother no-one while complying with any rules pertaining to their cleanliness.
When we use a vehicle inside the village to unload bulky objects, we take care to drive slowly and watch out for children.
By the very fact of joining, we make a commitment to respect this Charter.
And don't forget the fact that:

A real naturist can be recognised particularly when he's dressed
